Aberdare Range, Central Kenya
The Aberdare Range rises north of Nairobi, between Nyeri and Nyandarua. It's a world away from the savannah parks: cool highland air, dense forest and bamboo, open moorland and deep valleys with waterfalls.
Aberdare National Park, managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), covers the high moorland and forested slopes. Outside the park, the wider Aberdare area has lodges, farms and forest that make good bases. Tell us which you have in mind, or what you'd like to do, and we'll plan around it.

The park has several waterfalls, including Karuru and Gura, reached by road and short walks, where access allows.
Drive up through forest and bamboo to open highland moorland with wide views.
The forests are home to elephants, buffalo and other animals. Sightings in thick forest are never guaranteed.
Lodges in and around the park are known for watching wildlife at waterholes; we can suggest options for your budget.
